RIDE BRIEF
This is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend your ride briefing at the specified time on the day, as this may have more details and important information. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions. Woodend is a brand-new venue for us which we are very excited about!The distances have changed by an extra kilometre of enjoyment for you so it’s now 11km and 6km.We will be riding through the Birchbrook Equestrian Centre and the Butt Racing Stables to get to the Tuhaitara Coastal Park and Woodend Beach. The trail when you come off the beach is a little rougher for barefoot horses for a short period, however, if your horse is used to being barefoot this should be fine. Parking will be in a paddock which we have kindly been given access to by a local landowner. Water is available for the horses via a trough at base. Please bring a bucket for collection to avoid congestion at the trough. Below is a button for the ride base map. Please make sure you are familiar with this to make sure you are parking in the right spot.
GENERAL ManurePlease make sure you take your manure home with you. RubbishAbsolutely no rubbish is to be left on base or on the track. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up. Fire extinguisherThere will be a fire extinguisher in the Canterbury Club Trailer. Any emergency needs to be reported to Marga Marshall or Wendy Farnell as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this. Back Numbers Your back number can be collected from the secretary caravan and will be in a plastic bag. Please remove the back number from the plastic bag and place the plastic bag in the labelled box. After you have completed your final vet check, please return your back number and put it in the labelled bin. ON TRACK Track mannersPlease be courteous of other competitors at all times. The track goes in a loop so if you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. RidersEven if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours. No whips or spurs. If riding in unhealed foot wear, caged or approved safety stirrups must be worn. No GPS and no time wasting. All helmets must comply with regulations and be tagged. CourseMarkers - Pink markers are used for the 11km ride. The 6km ride follows the pink markers until you are turned off the common ground with a yellow marker. 11km - The course will go through the equestrian centre and a harness racing stables, out to the Woodend Beach float car park. You will then follow a sand track out on to the beach turning right to go down the beach towards Pines Beach. The beach is a public place so please be safety minded regarding other users on the beach. There may also be dogs. You will be turned off the beach and come back through the forest to the float car park and back through the racing stables and the equestrian centre. There are two step overs which are low enough for the horses to step over. Space is narrow accessing the step over at the car park when you return so please give each other enough space to manoeuvre and not rush horses at the step over. 6km – The course follows the 11km through the equestrian centre and a harness racing stables, out to the Woodend Beach float car park. You will then follow a sand track towards the beach. You will be turned off this track to the right to follow a sand track towards the forest. You will then turn right to follow the track back around to the float car park, back through the harness racing stables and the equestrian centre. There is a step over which is low enough for the horses to step over. Space is narrow accessing the step over when you return so please give each other enough space to manoeuvre and not rush horses at the step over. Ride Optimum Time 11km - Optimum Time = 1.15hrs 6km – Optimum Time = 40mins6km lead rein – Optimum Time = 45mins
Vet in Time 11km - 8.00am - 9.00am6km – 9.30am – 10.30am
Ride Brief Time Ride brief will be held near the club caravan 11km - 9.15am 6km – 10.45am

PRIZE GIVING / SAUSAGE SIZZLE There will be a sausage sizzle for you all to catch up and enjoy some social time before the prize giving . Bring a flask of hot water as we will have milo, tea, coffee, milk for you to make a hot drink to warm up!
