RIDE BRIEF
The EventThis is the first ride of the season and one that we haven’t been at for quite some years. Unfortunately the weather has meant that the farmland is not available but we have tried to give you loops that have good road verges. The views are amazing and ride base is the domain so great for camping. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us and that we won’t have any issues to deal with!
The event officially opens at 12.30pm on Friday 23 September and will close on Sunday 25 September at 5pm. Camping is available for this period and toilets are on base. Ride BriefThis is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend your ride briefing at the specified time during the weekend. Track information has been provided below. Please ensure you obey all road rules. Important information will be given at the ride brief on the day, along with important information about any hazards to be aware of. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions Ride BaseThis is a public Domain so there may be walkers around. Please be very courteous and respectful of this. There is water available at the domain for the horses but please bring plenty of water for yourself. Please park sensibly in straight lines if possible and don’t block the entry route. Please refer to the ride base map below. There are toilets on site for public use.
BibsYour bib is available for collection from the Club Trailer. Please remove it from the plastic bag and leave the bag in the container. You will need to collect this prior to vetting in. Please return the bib to the Club Trainer when you have finished. If you are riding both days you will receive a new bib the next day. Vetting inYour pre-ride vet in time is included below. When you have finished your ride and come for your post-ride vet in, there will be an area marked in front of the vet ring where you need to call out “time” and your bib number. This is so Wendy can record your vet in time to ensure it is within the allocated time you have been given. If there is a queue at the vet ring and you are near the end of your vet time, make sure you let Wendy know you are there.
Prize givingThere will be a prize giving at the end of each day along with a sausage sizzle and yummy cake. Please do stay around for this social event. We make every effort to try and time things to finish as early as possible but it does depend on when riders finish. Event Results will be posted.
General housekeeping 1. Rubbish – rubbish, hay and feed to be collected and removed from base. Manure can be scattered in the tree lines around the perimeter of the domain. Please make sure it is well within the tree line and not falling on to the domain. The base is to be left as you find it. Absolutely no rubbish is to be left on base or on the track. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up. 2. Fire extinguisher - There will be a fire extinguisher in the Canterbury Club Trailer. Any emergency needs to be reported to Wendy Farnell or Dave Hadler as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this.
On Track 1. Track manners - Please be courteous of other competitors at all times. There is common ground on the track so if you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. If you are with a group at water points, please allow those there first a chance to drink and move off before you allow your horse to drink. Many horses will be put off drinking when a strange horse approaches, it is particularly important to respect the horses competing over longer distances. Even if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours. If there are CTR riders at the finish line having heart rates taken, please be respectful of this. 2. Water –There are tubs at various places on the loops. If you stop at a water point, be very careful to remember which direction your loop was going before you set off again. 3. Markers - Arrows, dazzled milk bottles. 4. Course – All loops turn left out of the Domain. Follow the markers for the loop that you are riding. Your ride brief on the day will give you more detail regarding the loops. There is common ground on all loops so there may be riders coming towards you, or off to the side. Just keep following the markers as you have been directed for your loop. Don’t look behind, always follow the markers ahead of you. Most roads are quiet country roads. One section of road has some blind corners with little verge. It is a very quiet road but make sure you are listening for traffic before you head around the corner and use road rules please, staying as far to the left as possible. Traffic management will be in place but you must still obey all road rules and where you reach an intersection, be careful to listen and look for approaching traffic. Read the loop signs or arrows carefully at each intersection and watch for arrows turning you.
Riders No whips or spurs. If riding in unhealed foot wear, caged or approved safety stirrups must be worn. All helmets must comply with regulations and be tagged. Helmet tagging can be done on request. Please ensure you allow plenty of time if you need to get this done. For CTR riders, no GPS (distance monitoring) or time wasting is allowed.
