Seafield Event

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th October 2021 (paddock opposite) 81 Denshires Road South, Pendarves 7777

Ride Brief

This is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend your ride briefing at the specified time during the weekend. You will be given track information at the ride brief on the day, along with important information about any hazards to be aware of. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions
COVID – DELTA LEVEL 2 RESTRICTIONS The Delta strain is the most transmissible variant to date, spreading a lot more easily than the original version of the COVID-19 virus and other variants. It can be passed in the air, so these procedures must be followed for you to participate in this event. They are in line with ESNZ guidance.
Ride BaseThere is a limit of 100 people per day that are allowed at the event under Level 2 restrictions. Only confirmed registered riders will be allowed to enter ride base and participate in the event. Please do not bring spectators. If it is necessary for you to bring someone, please notify us by emailing: cetrc.secretary@gmail.com. Please wear a mask when going to the secretary caravan as others may be there without being able to maintain the required 2 metre distance. Please scan the QR code at the secretary caravan and sign the sheet. If you have been given approval to bring someone, please make sure they also do this as we are legally required to record who has been at our event. Your back number can be collected from the secretary caravan and will be in a plastic bag on the table outside the caravan. Please remove the back number from the plastic bag and place the plastic bag in the labelled box. After you have completed your final vet check, please return your back number and put it in the labelled box. If you are riding in the same discipline (eg endurance) the next day, please keep your bib and hand it in after your last ride. There is hand sanitizer available by the caravan for your use. This is a working farm, so all areas outside of the base paddock are out of bounds. Please see below for the ride base map which provides you with the detail on where everything is located and where you should be parking. Water is available, however there will likely only be 1 source at crewing, so we recommend bringing some for around your floats.
ParkingPlease refer to the ride base map to show you where parking is allowed. Please ensure you are parking to maintain some distance with others. If you are putting up pens, please make sure your gate entries are not next to other pens. Please be extremely considerate where you park and set your pens up. Keeping in straight lines and rows as much as possible. Please see below for a base map to show where to park and where to find the areas you will need.
Vetting inYou must wear a mask when vetting in. You will not be allowed access to the vet ring without one. NB: Under 12 year olds are not required to wear a mask. There will be an area marked in front of the vet ring where you need to call out “time” and your bib number. This is so Wendy can record your vet in time to ensure it is within the allocated time you have been given. If there is a queue at the vet ring and you are near the end of your vet time make sure you let Wendy know you are there.
Prize giving/bbqUnfortunately, we won’t be able to offer a social bbq or prizegiving at the Event. Certificates, ribbons and log books (where applicable), can be collected 2 hours after your class has finished from the secretary caravan. Please wear a mask when going to the secretary caravan as others may be there without being able to maintain the required 2 metre distance. All of the event Results will be posted on Facebook and our website.
General housekeeping 1. Rubbish - Manure/hay/feed to be collected and removed from base. Please ensure you are meticulous about this. Please bring plenty of plastic bags. The base is to be left as you find it. Absolutely no rubbish is to be left on base or on the track. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up. 2. Fire extinguisher - There will be a fire extinguisher in the Canterbury Club Trailer. Any emergency needs to be reported to Ursula Keenan, Wendy Farnell or Dave Hadler as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this.
On Track 1. Track manners - Please be courteous of other competitors at all times. If you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. There will be some common ground on the track, so if everyone heads out on the left and in on the left where possible that will help the flow. If you are with a group at water points, please allow those there first a chance to drink and move off before you allow your horse to drink. Many horses will be put off drinking when a strange horse approaches, it is particularly important to respect the horses competing over longer distances. Even if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours. If there are CTR riders at the finish line having heart rates taken, please be respectful of this. Please respect mown lawn in front of houses and do not ride on this.2. Markers - Dazzled road markers, dazzled milk bottles, arrows of different colours and loop signs (directional markers).3. Water – There is a good amount of water on all loops with tubs and buckets at various places. If you see tubs or buckets that need refilling, please notify an official when you can. 4. Distance Markers - We have changed these a little, as they could get confusing with directional markers. They are all 10km markers, so you’ll need to do a bit of adding up on the 40km loop! They are all on Orange cards and will be dotted around the track. 5. Directional Markers - As most of our competitions are 16/20/24 instead of making new signs for the 22/18 loops, we have just used the 24/20 signs. On the 22km loop, you will follow the 24km signs. On the 18km loop, you will follow the 20km signs. 6. Loops40km (marked with 40km directional markers)40km Endurance and CTR and loop 1 of the 80kmLeaves base and heads directly across the road and onto a private lane/working yard. You will make your way to the top part of the course in the first 6km, then head down towards the sea. The first 12 km are relativity straight roads with wide verges, after this the roads are broken up well with farm lanes and variations of roads. You will head back up towards base for a little way, then head through a lane and again head back towards the sea. This will wind you around some roads and onto the bottom part of the course which is quiet sealed road. We have marked you across the road and onto the left at one point as you are heading up to a corner, please make sure you follow these markers for your and the traffics safety. You will then travel back up towards base and up to the second small section of sealed road. This one is nice all the way along, but just be courteous and make sure if you are in groups or pairs you are on the same side of the road when vehicles are around. You will then head up another farm lane way and start to make your way back to base. You will be travelling the opposite direction to the other loops here, so don’t be alarmed if you see riders going the other way. You will re-enter base the same way you left, so please be cautious of other riders and vehicles coming out of base. Please make sure you follow all 40km signs and do not look behind you. All roads are open and road rules apply and must be adhered to, you will be disqualified from the competition if these are breached at all.
22km (marked with 24km directional markers)22km Endurance and CTR and loop 2 of the 80kmLeaves base and left up the road, around through the yard lane way, and back out past base. You will be heading out towards the sea, then back up towards base. Carry on around the roads until you head onto the lane way at the top of the track. You will be travelling the opposite direction to the other loops here, so don’t be alarmed if you see riders going the other way. You then start to make your way back to base, following common ground with the 40km loop. You will re-enter base the same way you left, so please be cautious of other riders and vehicles coming out of base. Please make sure you follow all “24”km signs and do not look behind you. All roads are open and road rules apply and must be adhered to, you will be disqualified from the competition if these are breached at all. 18km (marked with 20km directional markers)Loop 3 of the 80kmLeaves base and left up the road, around through the yard lane way, and back out past base. This is mostly a shortened reverse loop of the 22km loop. You will be heading out towards the sea, across a lane way then back up towards base. Carry on around the roads until you head onto the next lane way. You will be travelling the opposite direction to the other loops here, so don’t be alarmed if you see riders going the other way. You then start to make your way back to base, following some common ground with the 40km loop, before splitting off again and heading back towards home. You will re-enter base the same way you left, so please be cautious of other riders and vehicles coming out of base. Please make sure you follow all “20”km signs and do not look behind you. All roads are open and road rules apply and must be adhered to, you will be disqualified from the competition if these are breached at all. 10km (marked with 10km directional markers)10km CTR Leaves base and heads right up the road, where you will follow the track until you join up with some common ground with the other loops. You will go down the road a little way and start to head back towards base on a lane way. You will re-enter base the same way you left, so please be cautious of other riders and vehicles coming out of base. Please make sure you follow all 10km signs and do not look behind you. All roads are open and road rules apply and must be adhered to, you will be disqualified from the competition if these are breached at all. 5km (marked with 5km directional arrows)5km CTRLeaves base and left up the road, you will continue up to the next intersection in the road, then turn around and follow the same road back up to where you will turn left onto the lane way that will return you to base. I do apologise for the out and back, whatever we did, it was going to involve some repetition. Please make sure you follow all 5km signs and do not look behind you. All roads are open and road rules apply and must be adhered to, you will be disqualified from the competition if these are breached at all. Riders No whips or spurs. If riding in unhealed foot wear, caged or approved safety stirrups must be worn. For CTR, no GPS and forward motion must be maintained at all times. All helmets must comply with regulations and be tagged. Helmet tagging can be done on request. Please ensure you allow plenty of time if you need to get this done.
