Quartz Hill Event

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th February 2024 508 High Peak Road, Windwhistle

Ride Brief

This is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend your ride briefing at the specified time during the weekend, as this will have more details and important information. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions. General housekeeping 1. Water - There will be water for your horses but please bring your own water to drink. It looks like it will be hot so please make sure you have plenty of water and have some to carry on your ride, along with applying plenty of sunscreen. 2. Rubbish - Manure/hay/feed to be collected and taken with you. The base is to be left as you find it. Absolutely no rubbish is to be left on base or on the track. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up. 3. Fire extinguisher - There will be a fire extinguisher in the Canterbury Club Trailer. Any emergency needs to be reported to Andrea Rigby or Dave Hadler as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this. 4. Helmets – All helmets must be yellow tagged. Ride Base and Parking To get to ride base, when you come down Coleridge Road from SH77 you will see a sign that says twisty for 2km. At the end of the 2km there is a white bridge you cross over and the turn off to Quartz Hill is on the right (Snowdon Road). Travel for about 2km before you turn right on to High Peak Road. You travel down High Peak Road for about 4km. Ride base will be signposted. On Track 1. Track manners - Please be courteous of other competitors at all times. Passing - If you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. There will be some common ground on the track, so if everyone heads out on the left and in on the left where possible that will help the flow. Water points - If you are with a group at water points, please allow those there first a chance to drink and move off before you allow your horse to drink. Many horses will be put off drinking when a strange horse approaches, it is particularly important to respect the horses competing over longer distances. Rider Courtesy - If there are CTR riders at the finish line having heart rates taken, please be respectful of this. Even if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours. 2. Water – Troughs on the farms are all ok to use as is the river and creek water. There are tubs and buckets at various other places. 3. Markers - Arrows, loop signs, road cones and dazzled markings. 4. Course – Follow the markers and signs for the loop that you are riding. The loops are marked with 5km, 14km, 20km, 40km signs and appropriate arrows. There is common ground on all loops. There may be riders coming towards you, but just keep following the markers for your loop. Don’t look behind, always follow the markers ahead of you. You will be on a farm road at some points so please obey road rules and keep to the verges where possible. There has been every effort made by the landowners to ensure stock has been moved to have as many gates open as possible but there will be gates that will have to remain shut. Please ensure that any shut gate is shut behind you. If you opened it, it is your responsibility that it is securely shut again. 40km Loop The 40km loop includes two hills in it both with a gradual climb. The first hill is about 4km from the start and climbs for about 2km before levelling out and then descending. The second hill is about 19km into the loop and climbs for about 3km then descends. This leads you to the river which you are following for about 3kms. Follow the orange spraypainted rocks and fauna for the best route and footing along the riverbed. This will be a very slow section as it is rocky due to the 4wd track being damaged from the floods. The next rocky section is about 2km after you come off the riverbed. It is a track that goes around a hill. It does have sections which are okay under foot, but it will be slower going. 20km Loop The 20km loop is mostly farmland. At about 11km it goes around the hill which has rocky sections in it so will be slower going. 14km Loop The 14km loop goes down the laneway, up the hill with a gradual climb which starts about 4km from the start. It climbs for about 2km before levelling out and then descending. You then return back down the laneway and back to base. 5km Loop The 5km is a loop and goes along the farm road then down the laneways back to base. Event Loop Distances 80kms = 40, 20, 20 40kms = 40 20kms = 20 14kms = 14 5kms = 5 Ride Times These will be given at your ride brief. Riders No whips or spurs. If riding in unhealed footwear, caged or approved safety stirrups must be worn. For CTR, no GPS and forward motion must be maintained at all times. All helmets must comply with regulations and be tagged. Rider Start Times Please click on the buttons below for the rider vet in time, brief time and start times. Prize Giving/BBQ There will be a prize giving and sausage sizzle at the end of each day. As there are endurance riders doing long distances the prize giving may be a little wait for those of you who have done shorter distances. We make every effort to try and time things to finish as early as possible, but we do ask that you have a sausage and enjoy the social atmosphere while waiting for all to finish. All of the event results will be posted a couple of days later on our website. If you have any queries, please contact Andrea Rigby on 0272042425 or cetrc.secretary@gmail.com
