Quartz Hill Station
Sunday 31 July 2022
Address - 545 High Peak Road, Windwhistle
Introduction
We are very excited to be holding the last of our Winter Series at Quartz Hill Station!
We extend a big thank you to Georgie and Dan Harper for allowing us to use their beautiful farm.
This is a working farm so there will be farm machinery, workers and stock. The workers have been notified you are going to be there so please use road etiquette if you come across farm machinery.
The 10km is actually 14km in distance. We have adjusted the time accordingly so you have plenty of time to enjoy the ride and the scenery. It is worth the extra distance!
Although it might be muddy in parts, footing is good underneath. If your horse is okay barefoot then you won't have any problems but wear boots if you have any concerns.
Your bib numbers can be collected from the marquee. Please remove your bib from the plastic bag and leave the bag in the bucket provided.
You must have your bib number on before you vet in.
Please take a look at our On the Day page for information on what you need to do on the day if you are new to CTR.
Ride BriefThis is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend your ride briefing at the specified time, as this may have more details and important information. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions.
General housekeeping 1. Rubbish - Manure/hay/feed to be collected and taken with you. The farm is to be left as you find it. Absolutely no rubbish is to be left. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up.
2. Fire extinguisher - There will be a fire extinguisher in the marquee. Any emergency needs to be reported to Wendy Farnell as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this.
Ride Base and Parking To get to ride base, when you come down Coleridge Road from the east you will see a sign that says twisty for 2km. At the end of the 2km there is a white bridge you cross over and the turn off to Quartz Hill is on the right (Snowdon Road). If you are coming from the west then the turn off is before the white bridge. Travel for about 2km before you turn right on to High Peak Road. You travel down High Peak Road for about 4km. Ride base will be signposted from High Peak Road.
Depending on the weather it may be too wet to park on ride base so floats and vehicles will need to be parked on the laneway. You will be directed when you arrive.
I strongly suggest you bring pens to put your horses in on ride base as the laneway will be busy and won't be the best place to have your horses tethered to your floats.
Toilets will be available and water will also be available but please bring your own buckets and drinking water.
On Track 1. Track manners - Please be courteous of other competitors at all times. Passing - If you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. There will be some common ground on the track, so if everyone heads out on the left and in on the left where possible that will help the flow. Rider Courtesy - Even if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours.
2. Markers - Arrows and milk bottles. 3. Course – The 14km leaves base and heads down the laneway to the left. It will be signposted with a 10km arrow. The 5km leaves base and turns hard left and back up the laneway towards the road. Follow the markers and milk bottles for the loop that you are riding. There is common ground on the 14km loop so don’t look behind, always follow the markers ahead of you.
