Mt Torlesse

Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st February 2021 Address - Midland Road, Springfield
The Ride Mt Torlesse is CETRC’s most iconic event, often used for our Championship events and always one of the most popular events on the NZ Endurance and CTR Calendar. With virtually no road, just the couple surrounding base, this track has amazing views and super footing for shod, booted or barefoot horses. Some areas may be a little rougher, however, if you horse is used to being barefoot this should be fine. Ride BriefThis is a general ride brief and information. Please make sure you attend you ride briefing at the specified time during the weekend, as this may have more details and important information. All riders MUST ATTEND, no exceptions. General housekeeping 1. Rubbish - Manure TBAat briefing. Hay/feed to be collected and taken with you. The base is to be left as you find it. Absolutely no rubbish is to be left on base or on the track. If you drop something, please make sure you pick it up. 2. Fire extinguisher - There will be a fire extinguisher in the Canterbury Club Trailer and in Ursula’s White Toyota Hilux. Any emergency needs to be reported to Ursula Keenan, Helen Bray or Wendy Farnell as soon as possible. Please use your common sense around this. 3. Helmet tagging - can be done on request. Please ensure you allow plenty of time if you need to get this done. ALL HELMETS MUST BE TAGGED.
Ride Base and Parking Ride base is on Midlands Road, Springfield. Your GPS or Googlemaps will direct you. Ride base is signposted at the gate entry. When you drive in the gate, turn right and drive towards the tree line before you straighten up towards the base. No parking beyond the toilets. Please be extremely considerate where you park and set up pens, keeping in straight lines and rows as much as possible. This is a working farm, there may be farm work/animals/machinery around the base and tracks. Please have the upmost respect for this, and the generosity of the farmers allowing us on their farms for the event. All areas outside of the base paddock and track are out of bounds. The grass has been mowed but there is a decent covering for grazing. On Track 1. Track manners - Please be courteous of other competitors at all times. Passing - If you would like to pass, please ask if it is okay and give the competitor/s plenty of room. There will be some common ground on the track, so if everyone heads out on the left and in on the left where possible that will help the flow. Water points - If you are with a group at water points, please allow those there first a chance to drink and move off before you allow your horse to drink. Many horses will be put off drinking when a strange horse approaches, it is particularly important to respect the horses competing over longer distances. Rider Courtesy - If there are CTR riders at the finish line having heart rates taken, please be respectful of this.Even if your horse is friendly, please keep space between you and other horses. Horses with red ribbons in their tails should be treated as if they could kick, blue ribbons are for stallions. You should give all horses as much space as possible for their safety and yours. 2. Water – There is a good amount of water on all loops. There are also tubs and buckets at various other places. If you see tubs or buckets that need refilling, please notify an official when you can. 3. Markers - Dazzled road markers, dazzled milk bottles, arrows of different colours and loop signs. Marked as 40, 24, 16 and 5 with arrows at any diversion. Where there are two road markers, ride between them, as this means there is a hazard nearby. There are road cones at the railway crossing - you MUST ride between these. Orange crosses mean caution, as there is a hazard or rough ground ahead. 4. Course – The course will follow through farmland and some quiet country roads. The road rules apply on these roads and the roads are always open to traffic. Any competitor who does not obey the road rules will be eliminated and removed from the track immediately if possible. Railway line – this is crossed a number of times in the longer events, you MUST cross between the cones where this is safe to do so. No one is permitted to cross at any other area. Crop Paddocks/Green Feed Paddocks – You MUST ride on the already formed tracks in these paddocks. Freshly Sewn Paddocks – You MUST ride between the Road Markers in these paddocks. Any competitor who does not follow these instructions will be eliminated and removed from the course immediately if possible. 40km LoopThis is a combination of all loops, so please ensure you take care and follow the directional signs.
